Huaqiao University was among the institutions invited to the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference, held from November 15 to 17 in Beijing.

The conference, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute, with the Chinese President Xi Jinping sending a congratulatory letter.

Themed “Interconnection, Integration, Inheritance, Innovation” the conference brought together over 2,000 participants from more than 160 countries and regions, including government officials, university presidents, experts, scholars, teachers, students, and diplomatic envoys.

Vice President of Huaqiao University (HQU) Lin Hongyu attended the conference along with representatives from the Office of International Chinese Education, Chinese Language and Culture College of HQU, and the Preparatory Education College.

This conference featured a series of events including a thematic seminar to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Confucius Institute, the 2024 China-GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Language and Culture Forum, and the 2024 World Language Education Forum. Representatives from various parties engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as the future development of Confucius Institutes, standards for international Chinese language education, and the role of language education in the mutual learning among civilizations.

During the conference, Lin Hongyu, representing the university, held talks with Chinese and foreign directors from Confucius Institutes (classrooms) co-established with HQU in Thailand, Myanmar, and the Philippines. He engaged in extensive dialogue with these foreign representatives for better understanding of the operation and challenges faced by each Confucius Institute (classroom).
