On March 11, 2025, Huaqiao University (HQU) hosted a policy promotion event for the “Greater Bay Area (GBA) Youth Employment Scheme” on Quanzhou campus, marking the first time that the Hong Kong Labour and Welfare Bureau (LWB) had conducted such an initiative at HQU. Over 100 Hong Kong students from our university participated in the event.
Vice President Wang Xiuyong welcomed the delegation led by Ho Kai-ming, Under Secretary for LWB, and Li Chao Nan, the Director of the Fujian Office of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions. During the meeting, Wang Xiuyong provided an overview of the university, as well as its work on the cultivation and employment of Hong Kong students. He expressed the hope that this event would further deepen the cooperation between HQU and the Hong Kong LWB, encouraging more Hong Kong students to actively participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA.
Ho Kai-ming praised HQU for its achievements in training Hong Kong students, and extended his gratitude for the university’s preparations for the event. He hoped that both sides could explore long-term cooperation mechanisms to actively promote talent exchanges and cooperation between the two regions so as to provide a broader platform for the employment of Hong Kong students.
At the policy promotion event, Ho Kai-ming and Li Chao Nan provided a detailed interpretation of the GBA Youth Employment Scheme from different perspectives. Students at the venue actively raised questions and engaged in discussions on aspects such as salary and benefits, job requirements, and application qualifications.Huang Anli, a Hong Kong student from HQU’s Business School, said, “The GBA Youth Employment Scheme offers us many high-quality job opportunities. The comprehensive talent policy support also alleviates our concerns about employment. I hope to cherish my study time, continuously improve my professional skills, and find a suitable position through this scheme to achieve my life goals.”
Since March 2023, the Hong Kong LWB has been implementing the GBA Youth Employment Scheme to deepen the coordinated talent development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The scheme encourages enterprises with operations in both Hong Kong and the Mainland cities of the Greater Bay Area to provide job positions and recruit Hong Kong youth to work in these Mainland cities, thereby promoting their career development and talent exchange within the region. In 2024, 19 graduates from our university secured employment in the GBA through this scheme.
Representatives from the university’s Student Affairs Office and the Board of Directors’ Office in Hong Kong also attended the promotional event.
